Everybody Knows (Spanish: Todos lo saben) is a 2018 Spanish psychological thriller film written and directed by Asghar Farhadi, and starring Javier Bardem and Penélope Cruz.[3][4] The film opened the 2018 Cannes Film Festival in competition[5] and will be released in Spain on 14 September 2018.[6]
Plot
The story follows Laura (Penélope Cruz), a Spanish woman living in Buenos Aires, who returns with her children to her hometown outside Madrid for a wedding. However, the trip is upset by unexpected events that bring secrets into the open.[3]

Production
The film is a French-Spanish-Italian co-production and received funding from Canal+, Eurimages, France Télévisions, Ciné+, l’ICAA and Movistar, among others.[3]
Principal photography started in August 2017.[4]
Release
The film had its world premiere at the Cannes Film Festival on 8 May 2018.[7] Shortly after, Focus Features acquired distribution rights to the film in various territories.[8] It also screened at the Toronto International Film Festival on 8 September 2018. [9] [10] It was released in Spain on 14 September 2018.[11] It is scheduled to be released in the United States on 8 February 2019.[12]
Reception
The film was received with rather positive to mixed reviews from critics. On review aggregator website Rotten Tomatoes, the film holds an approval rating of 60%, based on 48 reviews, and an average rating of 6.2/10. The Critics Consensus says: "Everybody Knows is somewhat less than the sum of its parts despite the efforts of an outstanding cast - and a disappointing step back for writer-director Asghar Farhadi".[13] On Metacritic, the film has a weighted average score of 68 out of 100, based on 16 critics, indicating "generally favorable reviews".[14]
Writing for The A.V. Club, A. A. Dowd gave the film a B rating, saying that that "Javier Bardem and Penelope Cruz help break Cannes' opening-night curse".[15]
