Eustace Shine

Eustace Beverley Shine CB (9 July 1873 – 11 November 1952) was an English civil servant and first-class cricketer active 1895–99 who played for Kent (awarded county cap 1896), Marylebone Cricket Club (MCC) and Cambridge University. He was born in Port of Spain; died in New Milton, Hampshire.[1]

Early life and cricket

Shine was born on 9 July 1873 in Trinidad where his father was a Merchant, he was educated at Edward VI School, Saffron Walden and Selwyn College, Cambridge.[2] He obtained a Cricket Blue at Cambridge in 1896 and after leaving the college he played for Kent.[2]

Civil service

In 1900 he became an inspector at the Board of Agriculture and served as a private secretary to two presidents of the board.[2] In 1905 he was appointed head of the livestock branch until 1911.[2] From 1921 until he retired in 1933 he was the establishment's officer.[2]

Family life

Shine married in 1900 to Mary Venables and they had a son, after his first wife died he married Ida Cornwall in 1912 and had three daughters.[2] He died on 11 November 1952 at his home in New Milton, Hampshire aged 79.[2]
