Euclavarctus is a genus of tardigrades, in the subfamily Euclavarctinae which is part of the family Halechiniscidae.[1] The genus is the fifth oldest in the family and was named and described by Jeanne Renaud-Mornant in 1975.
Its etymology is Greek eu- (good) and Clavarctus. Other names would be later added in 1983 which would become part of the Euclavarctinae subfamily.
The first one Euclavarctus thieli were discovered underwater in the Indian Ocean during an expedition by the Meteor in the 1970s.
Species
According to Degma, Bertolani et Guidetti (2013),[1] this genus includes two species:
- Euclavarctus convergens Renaud-Mornant, 1983
- Euclavarctus thieli Renaud-Mornant, 1975
