An operator of pre-schools, primary, secondary and high schools, it has 100 such institutions,[1] including schools in Hong Kong, India,[2] Japan, Indonesia, Vietnam, China, Myanmar, Cambodia, Kazakhstan, Middle East and Malaysia.

EtonHouse is headquartered in Singapore with more than 120 schools spread across Singapore, Hong Kong, China, India, Indonesia, Japan, Malaysia, Cambodia, Vietnam, Myanmar, Middle East and Kazakhstan. EtonHouse has 9 International Baccalaureate (IB) World Schools in its fold.

History

The first EtonHouse school was opened in Singapore in 1995 by Ng Gim Choo, who had been inspired by her observations as a parent of play-based preschools in London.[3][4][5] Initially, the school had difficulty acquiring local staff due to a lack of educators with early-childhood education training and so brought in teachers from overseas.[3] By 2010, the Group's average annual revenue was $40 million with 26 schools across Asia.[4] Today it stands at $100 million.

Developments

As of 2014, the group was operating E-Bridge Pre-School, alongside its regular institutions as part of the Singapore Government’s Anchor Operator Programme (AOP). High demand for registration created long lines and a requirement for revision to enrollment procedures.[6] On 15 July 2016, the Group opened the Large Child Care Centre in Edgedale Plains in Punggol.[7] The centre is the first of five mega childcare centres run by anchor operators to open, to meet the growing demand for childcare services in Singapore.

EtonHouse also offers Mandarin-only classes for children, at its campus located in Hwa Chong Institution in Singapore. Children in the Pre-nursery and Nursery classesaree taught entirely in Mandarin in the Mandarin Immersion Programme, from 18 months till 4 years old.[8]

In 2016, EtonHouse announced the launch of Middleton International School,[9] an affordable international school with fees about S$18,000 a year, about one-third lower than the average international school fees.[10] Middleton International School started its first school term in January 2017, with its Mathematics and Chinese language syllabus aligned to the local schools' curriculum. The school shares the same premises with EtonHouse Pre-School at 215 Upper Bukit Timah Road.

EtonHouse Community Fund was set up in 2015 to mark the company’s 20th anniversary. The fund was started with the objective of making a difference in the lives of children through education. It is a Registered Charity approved by the Commissioner of Charities in Singapore. It pledged $100,000 to the Early Childhood Development Agency (ECDA) KidStart Scheme at the Opening of the E-Bridge Large Child Care Centre at Edgedale Plains in July 2016.[11] During Christmas in 2016, it launched the EtonHouse Box of Joy initiative, which encouraged parents and their children to decorate old shoeboxes and fill them with gifts for children from 0 to 12 years old. Beneficiaries included the Henderson-Dawson Citizens' Consultative Committee's We Love Learning programme[12] and many more charities.

The Group also announced its investment of $110mil in a China campus project in Deyang of Sichuan, China in 2017.[13] The new campus will have a capacity of 5000 students and includes 3 campuses - a standalone kindergarten, a primary and secondary school, a kindergarten and high school campus as well as a teacher training centre.

In December 2017, Saarth Khanna Sohum, a student of EtonHouse International School Sentosa, was named the Youngest Bilingual Author in the World-Guinness World Records[14]. Saarth conceptualised the picture book, the play script and the 2 songs that were published after 108 days of hard work in 3 editions - English, English and Hindi as well as English and Mandarin on 2 November 2017.

The group further expanded by opening a brand new International School at Orchard[15] offering an education pathway from primary through to secondary and high school. The campus will be a modern facility with a cutting-edge SMART programme focusing on Science, Maths, Art, Research and Technology.

Middleton International School (MIS) offers an affordable programme for expatriates in Singapore and will open a brand new campus in Tampines in May 2018, subject to regulatory approvals. With a capacity of 1000 students, it will offer a through train pathway from Nursery 2 to High School (3-18 years).[16]
