Érick Aguirre (born 23 February 1997 in La Ruana, Michoacán) is a Mexican professional footballer who can play as a right back and midfielder for Pachuca.[2]

Starting his youth career with Morelia in 2012, he broke out into the senior Morelia team in 2014. He participated with the team for 2 years before heading over to Pachuca.

He has participated for the Mexico national football team in the U-17, U-23, and senior levels.

He was listed in The Guardian's list of Next Generation 2014: 40 of the best young talents in world football.[3]

Morelia

Aguirre made his senior debut with Morelia on 8 August 2014, in a 0–0 tie.[4] He would score his first goal with the team on 19 September 2014 in a 3–2 loss against UNAM.[5]

Pachuca

On 8 June 2016, it was declared that Aguirre was purchased by Pachuca.[6]

International career

Mexico national team

Mexico interim manager, Ricardo Ferretti, called up Aguirre for the first time for September friendlies against Uruguay and the United States.[7] He would make his debut with the national team on 11 September 2018 in a friendly match against the United States, losing 1–0.[8]

Style of play

Tom Marshall of ESPN described Aguirre as, "The cultured midfielder seems to see the game in slow motion, has an excellent temperament and can also play at right-back, where his passing ability adds an extra element to his team's play in possession."[9]
