Fernando Alves Baía Pinto da Costa, commonly known by the nickname Emplastro, is a Portuguese football fan, who became famous after videobombing sport channels and other channels, commonly by staying on the reporter's back.

Born in Madalena, Vila Nova de Gaia, Portugal, he become an orphan when he was still young.[1] He was accompanied by Gaia's CERCI since he was eight years old, and after leaving, he worked at Panificadora Coelho in Vilar do Paraíso, Gaia, for fifteen years.[2] Leaving his work for disability, he begins to dedicate himself to his passion for football. From the beginning of the 1990s, his fame begins in the world of the football, when he comes to appear behind television reporters whenever there is a big game of football or another major media event.[1] He did also have famous phrases, such as "My father is Pinto da Costa and my mother is Vítor Baía"[3] and reciting the names of all Porto Metro stations from Estádio do Dragão to Póvoa de Varzim - the fervent fan of FC Porto, is a partner of at least five other clubs (Boavista F.C., Leça F.C., Académica, and Rio Ave F.C.), a consequence of the sympathies that he did with them.[2]

Fernando Alves thus this way finds a way of subsistence, because the fame conquered allows him to ask for some money for photos taken with other fans. Sports claques begin to adopt him as a mascot, who are in charge of transporting him to the different sporting stages, multiplying the caricature stories.[2] Its popularity guarantees him many entrances in stadiums and other shows.[1][2]

The prominence of Emplastro made him to be invited to television programs, such as the Herman SIC, after which Herman Jose offered him a denture, which he shows garbatively.[2][1] He did also appear in MTV's show Ridiculousness,[4] which showed the unusual moment when SIC reporter Miguel Guerreiro handed him the microphone and reversed the roles, placing himself in the position of Emplastro.[1]
