Early life

Emmett James Humphries was born on 4 February 1972. He is the second son of Richard and Kathryn Humphries. His father was a music journalist for fleet street in the 1960s during the height on the "British Invasion". He has an older brother Cymon Humphries and a younger brother Matthew Humphries, along with three sisters Amy, Georgina and Lucy. He was named after a character on the American TV show The Virginian Deputy Sheriff Emmett Ryker played by actor Clu Gulager. His youth growing up in London as a teenager in the 1980s was documented in his memoir Admit One: My Life In Film.

Education

James started his education at Cypress Junior School in London, graduating on to Sylvan High School. He subsequently continued his college education in Buckinghamshire, Wisbech, England.

Returning to London in the 90's he studied acting with Marianna Hill at the Lee Strasberg Institute, before eventually making the move to Los Angeles to pursue a career acting in film and television.

Career

He has worked extensively as a thespian in every single medium, from voicing a number one video game franchise to having a recurring role on America's oldest running soap opera. Projects he has lent his talents to have been honoured with Oscars, and Golden Globe, SAG, Emmy, and BAFTA awards. Emmett was also presented with a prestigious ADA award for his work on the Los Angeles stage for his lead role as the severely disabled boy in 'Keeping Tom Nice'. His performance was widely praised amongst the critical press, with Backstage West commenting; "James turns in an astonishing performance in the role of the profoundly damaged Tom, we never get the sense that he's acting up there."[1]

In addition to acting, he has produced, taught, and directed film, stage, and television productions in Hollywood and London.
