Elizabeth Davis (midwife)

Elizabeth Davis is an author, women's health care specialist, educator, consultant, and Certified Professional Midwife (CPM).[1][2][3] She is a resident of Sebastopol, California and a mother of three children.[4] Since 1977, Davis has pioneered a professional path for midwives in the United States while educating women around the world.[4] Elizabeth Davis is globally active as an expert on midwifery, women, and reproductive health issues. She has been involved with midwifery education and legalization and also lectures about reproductive rights, sexuality, and birth trauma.

Elizabeth Davis has discussed information on controversial birth routines and how birth occurs on different levels of emotion and care, particularly in her revised edition of Hearts and Hands: A Midwife's Guide to Pregnancy and Birth.[5] Davis has written other books including: Energetic Pregnancy, Women's Intuition, Women, Sex, & Desire: Exploring Your Sexuality at Every Stage of Life, and her latest with Carol Leonard, called The Women's Wheel of Life Thirteen Archetypes of Woman at Her Fullest Power.[3]

Education

Elizabeth Davis completed her midwifery apprenticeship training between 1978 and 1979.[6] Elizabeth Davis received a degree in 1980 from Holistic Maternity Care at Antioch University.[1][2][6] Davis is certified by the North American Registry of Midwives (NARM).[4]

Career

Elizabeth Davis was a representative to the Midwives Alliance of North America (MANA) for five consecutive years.[1] She served as president for the Midwifery Education Accreditation Council (MEAC).[2][7] Davis is co-founder of the National Midwifery Institute Incorporated. The institution is a MEAC accredited, apprenticeship-based midwifery program.[8] The program is a step towards a midwifery licensure in California and the CPM credential.
