Eliza Jean Reid (born 1976) is a Canadian-born current First Lady of Iceland since 2016. Before her appointment as First Lady, she was a freelance writer for multiple Icelandic magazines and editor of the Icelandair Stopover from 2012 to 2016. She is also the cofounder of the Iceland Writers Retreat.
Early life and education
In 1976, Reid was born in Ottawa, Ontario[1] and moved with her family to Ashton, Ontario as a child. After moving, she attended Bell High School in Nepean, Ontario.[2] As a student at the University of Toronto, Reid became a choral scholar and sang for the Hallgrímskirkja Motet Choir.[3] After she graduated from the University of Toronto with an international relations bachelor's degree, she went to Oxford University to complete a modern history master's degree.[4]
Career

Reid began her career volunteering in hospitals. She was in charge of volunteer students at The Hospital for Sick Children and volunteered at the Landspítali Hospital in Iceland. Reid later worked in sales from 1999 to 2003 and in marketing until 2004.[3]
After her move to Iceland in 2003, Reid became a freelance writer for multiple Icelandic publications. She wrote for Reykjavík Grapevine and Iceland Review from 2005 to 2008 and became an editor for Icelandair Stopover in 2012. Outside of writing, Reid opened up a company in 2008 and began a place for Icleandic authors in 2014.[5] After her term as editor for Icelandair Stopover ended in 2016,[3] Reid became the First Lady of Iceland after her husband Guðni Th. Jóhannesson was elected as President of Iceland in 2016.[4]
Personal life
In 2004, Reid married Icelandic president Guðni Th. Jóhannesson and have four children together.[4]
