Eleanor D. Wilson

Eleanor D. Wilson (September 9, 1908 – May 31, 2002) was an American Tony-nominated actress and artist, known for her roles in Reds (1981) and the Gore Vidal play Weekend (1968).

Wilson was born in Chester, Pennsylvania. She graduated from Hollins University (then Hollins College) with a degree in Chemistry and went on to become an actress and artist.[1] Her Broadway roles include Weekend (1968), The Wayward Saint (1955), The Silver Whistle (1948), and The Eagle Has Two Heads (1947).[2] Her film roles include Alice's Restaurant (1961) and Reds (1981).[3] She retired from acting in 1984 and then focused on creating mathematical abstract paintings.[4] Wilson died on May 31, 2002 at the age of 93.[5]

Legacy

  • Wilson was nominated for a Tony award in the Best Performance by a Featured Actress in a Play for her role as Mrs. Andrews in "Weekend".[6]
  • Wilson created and provided financial support for the Eleanor D. Wilson museum at her alma mater, Hollins University.[7]
