Elbbrücken station (Elbe bridges station) is a public transit station under construction in Hamburg, Germany near the railway and road bridges called Elbbrücken leading over the Norderelbe. It will consist of two elevated stops, one for the Hamburg U-Bahn underground and one for the Hamburg S-Bahn commuter trains with two tracks each, interlinked by a "skywalk". The station will be the terminus of the U4 line of the U-Bahn and a new stop on the S3/S31 S-Bahn line.[1] It is built to facilitate a better accessibility of the new HafenCity quarter of Hamburg from the south.

Construction and opening

The station is under construction, the U-Bahn stop is scheduled to open in December 2018. The opening of the S-Bahn stop has been delayed due to problems during construction works. Holes for the foundation couldn't be drilled as planned because drilling machines partly met resistance at 10 metres below the surface.[2] While the cost for the U-Bahn section was lower than expected - down from 178 million Euro to 145 million, including the tracks from the previous station HafenCity Universität -,[1] the cost for the S-Bahn stop is expected to rise from 43 to 57 million Euro.[2]
