Edvard Westman (1901)

Gustav Edvard Westman (1865–1917) was a Swedish painter, remembered for his works in the plein air style. Born in Gävle on 16 May 1865, after attending the Swedish Academy in Stockholm (1882–83), he continued his studies in the Düsseldorf Academy (1883–85) under Heinrich Lauenstein, followed by a period in Paris. He became a member of the artists colonies in Skagen, Denmark, and Önningeby on the island of Åland in the late 19th century. He spent several years in Turku, Finland, frequently returning to Åland where he joined Victor Westerholm and his friends at the artists colony.[1] His works are in the permanent collections of Skagen Museum and Önningeby Museum.[2]

Edvard Westman died in Norrtälje, Stockholm County, on 23 September 1917.[3]
