He was a younger son of Reginald Bray of Barrington Park and succeeded his elder brother William to the estate in 1720.

He was the Member of Parliament for the constituency of Tewkesbury for 1701 to 1708 and for Gloucestershire for 22 June 1720 to 1722.

He married, in 1697, Frances, the daughter and eventually heiress of Sir Edward Morgan, 3rd Bt. of Llantarnam Abbey, Monmouthshire, with whom he had 3 sons and 3 daughters. He was succeeded by his eldest son Reginald Morgan Bray, who in 1734 sold Barrington Park to Charles Talbot, 1st Baron Talbot, the Lord Chancellor, for the use of his son William Talbot and William's wife, Mary de Cardonnel.
