Approved by the National Universities Commission, on Wednesday 13th, 2016, Eastern Palm University, Ogboko, Imo State became the 42nd State owned University and the 143 University in Nigeria. Eastern Palm University also known as EPU, was founded by Governor Rochas Okorocha, Executive governor of Imo State.

Eastern Palm University opened its doors to its first students in 2017. The university is located in Ogboko, Ideato South LGA, Orlu in Imo State, Nigeria. The university's pioneer Vice Chancellor was Prof. Linus Osuagwu, a former Dean and Professor at the American University of Nigeria, Yola. The current acting vice chancellor is Prof. Dafe Otobo, a Professor of Industrial Relations and Human Resource Management who joined from the University of Lagos (UNILAG.
