East Alton/Wood River High School is a public high school located in Wood River, Illinois, and the mascot is the Oilers. The mascot dates back to the time where the main employer was Standard Oil Company. The school has a notable rivalry with Roxana High School, as the school boundaries cross neighborhood streets within Wood River and it is not unheard of having one house being in the EAWR High School District and the house just across the street being in Roxana High School district. This is commonly found along 9th Street in Wood River but 6th Street is also used as a dividing line[4]. It is noted that Civic Memorial and East Alton/Wood River is also divided by neighborhood streets as well, and those two schools have a known rivalry as well. EAWR has a noted competitive rivalry with another local school in Alton Marquette as both play in the same conference.
