Background and Personal life

Dushyant Sridhar was born into a Tamilian family living in Bangalore. After studying in schools in Bangalore, he joined BITS Pilani and studied chemical engineering there. At BITS, Sridhar got more interested in finding out the meaning of chants, as he and a few classmates used to gather on weekends at the Saraswati temple in the campus to chant Vishnu Sahasranamam. Listening to them chant, the vice chancellor (Mr. Venkateshwaran) suggested delivering an upanyasam (discourse)in the campus. He gave his first discourse ('upanyasa') by chance, at BITS Pilani to his co-students at the behest of the vice chancellor, professor and a professor's friend. Sridhar describes how his first experience was a revelation to him on what else went into being an upanyaskar other than public speaking, and started to study more to improve his Sanskrit and Tamil.

Sridhar passed out of BITS, Pilani in 2008, by which time he had given a dozen upanyasams.[3] He was under the impression that these upanyasams were a passing fad. Thereafter, Sridhar worked one year at the practice school at Century Rayon, Shahad and subsequently worked in the corporate sector in a number of companies including a market research firm in Mumbai and TCS.[4] He subsequently quit working in the corporate sector in 2016 and currently spends all his time studying the Vedas and delivering lectures on television channels as well as in public gatherings. He lives with his wife, daughter and parents in Bengaluru.[5]
