Down in Heaven is Twin Peaks third studio album. Twin Peaks recorded the bulk of the album in August 2015 with R. Andrew Humphrey co-producing and John Agnello mixing. Colin Croom joined the band for this record and has since been a permanent member of the group. The album was recorded in Massachusetts and was released on May 13, 2016.
Reception
This album delivered a softer sound, which validates the bands movement from awkward teenage drama to adulthood. The more introverted Down in Heaven allows the band to further mature. Pitchfork states that the album demonstrates "the awkward first kisses, the difficult break-up conversations, the sad walks home alone."[1]
Twin Peaks proves that they can bring new ideas to their music. Down in Heaven shows that it's "satisfying to hear young rock bands with rich knowledge of the genre’s history, trying their damnedest to capture the energy of old records from a bygone era,"[2] described by Spin. This formula also allowed Twin Peaks to reach global success. According to The Line of Best Fit, "few young bands have a hold on their city like Twin Peaks does with Chicago."[3] With Down in Heaven, "Twin Peaks have become not just one of the most exciting young bands in Chicago music scene, but in the entire rock landscape."[3]
