Donald Levy

Donald H. Levy is an American chemical physicist who was a leader in the development of supersonic jet cooling.

Biography

Donald Levy was a member of the University of Chicago from 1967. From 1998 to 2008 he was editor of the Journal of Chemical Physics. In 2005, he was a chair for Science Policy Council. In 2007 he was an overseer of the management contracts for such places as Argonne National Laboratory and Fermi National Accelerator Laboratory, the Office of Technology and Intellectual Policy, the Office of University Research Administration and the Research Computing Center, University-Argonne research centers and everything related to Human Subjects Research. The contracts resulted in $900 million.

He is a member of the National Academy of Sciences and is considered to be a fellow of the American Academy of Arts and Sciences. He is also a member of the American Physical Society and the American Association for the Advancement of Science. He used to be chairman of the Chemistry Department, where he played an important role as a leader for planning the Gordon Center for Integrative Science.

Awards

He was awarded the Plyler Prize of the American Physical Society in 1987, the E. Bright Wilson Award in Spectroscopy in 2006, and the Ellis Lippincott Award from the Optical Society of America.^[1]
