Vruwink grew up on a dairy farm near Auburndale, Wisconsin. He received his bachelor's degree from University of Wisconsin–Stevens Point and his master's degree from University of Wisconsin–Whitewater. Vruwink taught history and was a coach at Milton High School in Milton, Wisconsin from 1979 to 2011. From 2011 to 2015, Vruwink served on the Milton Common Council. In 2016, Vruwink served on the Milton School Board. Starting in 2017, Vruwink served in the Wisconsin State Assembly as a member of the Democratic Party.[2][3]
As a member of the State Assembly, Vruwink has advocated for his constituents to participate in legislative study committees, which allow constituents to analyze issues and provide recommendations to the legislature. These committees range in topic from property tax assessment to direct primary care issues.[4]
Representative Vruwink has given speeches about protecting the autonomy of university student councils -- with special regard to the local University of Wisconsin Madison[5]. He has also spoken about ensuring emotional health, safety, and vitality among our primary and secondary education students[6].
