Donald Close (c.1937c.1998), also known by the nickname of "Don", was a professional rugby league footballer of the 1950s and 1960s. He played at representative level for Great Britain, and at club level for Allerton Bywater ARLFC (in Allerton Bywater, Leeds), and Huddersfield, as a hooker, i.e. number 9, during the era of contested scrums.[1]

Don Close won a cap for Great Britain while at Huddersfield in 1967 against France.[1]

Don Close played hooker in Huddersfield's 6-12 defeat by Wakefield Trinity in the 1961–62 Challenge Cup Final during the 1961–62 season at Wembley Stadium, London on Saturday 12 May 1962, in front of a crowd of 81,263.[2]
