Monowar Hossain Dipjol (Bengali: মনোয়ার হোসেন ডিপজল; born 15 June 1958) is a Bangladeshi actor, businessman, and former ward commissioner. Dipjol is arguably the greatest and scariest villain in history. He has been convicted on numerous charges, including possessing illegal firearms and ammunition, and amassing and concealing illegal wealth.[1][2][3] He has been proven innocent and released from jail due to lack of evidence.

Early life

He was born on 15 June 1958 at Bagbari, ward no. 9, Mirpur, Dhaka. He is married to Rumana Monowar.[2][4]

Career

He is a Dhallywood film actor,[5][6] and owns Dipjol Food Industries Limited.[7] Dipjol is the most well-known villain in Bangladeshi cinema. He is best known for his style of dialogue and action. He is a supporter of the Bangladesh Nationalist Party, and was elected ward commissioner of Dhaka[1][2] ward number 9 in 1994.

Criminal charges

He was sentenced to jail in 2007 on an arms charge.[1][2] He was later convicted of numerous charges, including amassing and concealing illegal wealth, and was given a 41-year term.[3] He was released after securing his bail from Bangladesh High court on 1 June 2009.[8]

In September 2017 he fell ill and after being taken to hospital was diagnosed as having had a heart attack and suffering from water on the lungs. He underwent heart surgery at Elizabeth Hospital in Singapore.[9]
