Dhan Singh Negi

Dhan Singh Negi is a leading Indian politician and member of the Bharatiya Janata Party. Negi is currently a member of the Uttarakhand Legislative Assembly from the Tehri constituency in Tehri Garhwal district^[1]

Negi won the 2017 Assembly election by the widest margin ever in an election for Tehri assembly seat, defeating an incumbent Cabinet minister.^[2] In earlier role he has been Chairman of Aanchal Milk Cooperative Society in Tehri Garhwal between 2009-2012.

Dhan Singh Negi is well known leading voice of rural villages and is acclaimed for his proactive approach, out of box thinking and passion to help.

Early life and Career

Negi was born in a remote village of Palcot, Patti Lamridhar, Tehri Garhwal, Uttar Pradesh (now in Uttarakhand), India. He was youngest child in family, as a child use to help his mother in running household involving bringing fodder walking miles in Jungle. Negi's early education was in rural schools involving daily walks of over 10 km. He displayed sheer brilliance in academics from early days as a child, relentlessly pursuing his passion in Maths & Physics. Driven by his deep love for subject he pursued an education through Post-Graduate in physics followed by B.Ed.

Negi deeply moved by unending poverty, misery and endless migration from Tehri Garhwal decided to work for improvement and bringing social change. He resigned from his Job as Lecturer pursuing his social cause and social upliftment. Since then there has been no looking back for more than 20+ years.

Political career

Dhan Singh Negi is currently M.L.A from Tehri Constituency and is member of below committees of Uttarakhand Assembly.

1. Public Sector Units & Municipal Oversight ^[3]
2. Information Technology Policy ^[4]

He is also currently member of Doon University Board and has been recently appointed member of Uttarakhand State Wildlife Board, one of most critical policy appointment. Wildlife Board plays important role in development policies as Uttarakhand is state with more than 70% forest cover.

Social Initiatives

Dhan Singh Negi is leading social change in Tehri from front. One of his First & Important announcement post winning election was to donate half of his salary in the marriage of daughters of widows, disabled and poor people.^[5] This is first of its kind initiative in state supporting most marginal section of society.^[6]
