Deutschland 86 is an upcoming television series starring Jonas Nay as an agent of East Germany.[1] It is a sequel to the 2015 series Deutschland 83.
Cast
- Jonas Nay as Martin Rauch / Moritz Stamm, code name Kolibri (Hummingbird), a border patrol guard from East Germany, who went undercover in West Germany in 1983, impersonating the murdered oberleutnant Moritz Stamm.
- Maria Schrader as Lenora Rauch, Martin's aunt and one of his handlers for the Stasi. She is a cultural attaché of the East German Permanent Mission (StäV) in Bonn.
- Sylvester Groth as Walter Schweppenstette, Lenora's boss at the East German Mission.
- Sonja Gerhardt as Annett Schneider, Martin's former fiancée who lives in Kleinmachnow, East Germany.
- Ludwig Trepte as Oberleutnant Alex Edel, who serves in the military with Martin.
- Alexander Beyer as Tobias Tischbier, a professor at the University of Bonn and Martin's handler who works in the Stasi's foreign arm, the Main Directorate for Reconnaissance (HVA).
- Chris Veres[1] as Tim, a closeted gay American G.I. who works with Alex Edel

Broadcast
The series will first air in Germany on Amazon Prime on 19 October 2018.[2] The series will premiere in the United States on 25 October 2018 on SundanceTV.[3] It will air in the UK during January or February of 2019 on Channel 4.[4]
Production
In August 2017, filming began in Cape Town, South Africa, with the majority of the returning cast from Deutschland 83 and five new cast members being confirmed,[5][6] and concluded there in October[7] before returning to Berlin. On 18 December 2017, both star Jonas Nay and co-creator Anna Winger confirmed on Twitter that it was the final day of filming on the series [8] with filming wrapping four days later.[9] New cast member Chris Veres was promoted to series regular in November 2017.[10] On 26 July 2018, Nay revealed the German premiere date on Instagram.[11] Two days later, the US premiere date was revealed on the show's official Facebook, Twitter and Instagram accounts.[12][13]
