Dell Loy Hansen

Dell Loy Hansen is an American business person and owner of the Major League Soccer club Real Salt Lake. Hansen is also the owner of Rio Tinto Stadium, Wasatch Property Management, and Utah Royals FC of the National Women's Soccer League. Hansen joined the Real Salt Lake ownership group in October 2009, spending three years as a minority partner before acquiring full ownership of the team in January 2013.[1] Hansen has become one of the visionaries in Major League Soccer advocating for the creation of an extensive youth development program and high quality training facilities, a vision he realized for his own organization with the opening of several youth academies and the Real Salt Lake training facility in 2018.[2][3][4][5]

Career

Wasatch Property Management

Hansen founded Wasatch Property Management in 1988 and employs approximately 600 employees with a real estate portfolio valued at more than $1.2 billion. Hansen is owner or part owner of close to a dozen other companies, with approximately 900 employees located across Utah, Idaho, and California.[6]

Real Salt Lake

Hansen spearheaded a solar energy project for Rio Tinto Stadium where Real Salt Lake plays its home games. Rio Tinto Stadium has the largest solar offset for any professional sports stadium in the United States. Nearly three-quarters of the stadium’s power is derived from solar panels.[7] In 2015, Hansen received the largest fine in the history of Major League Soccer when he was penalized $150,000 for his comments on the players' collective bargaining agreement requests.[8]

Charity

Hansen has founded more than 22 charitable trusts over the past thirty years, funding a wide variety of causes in the intermountain west.[9]
