Delhi Public School Ghaziabad (DPSG) is a private educational institution in Ghaziabad, India, established in 1980. The school has ranked the best in the city of Ghaziabad, and amongst the best in Delhi-NCR and the country.[1][2][3][4] It was ranked the third best day school in India, in terms of academic reputation by the EW Day Schools Survey, 2011.[5] In the early 2000s, DPSG became the first school in the National Capital Region and western Uttar Pradesh districts to receive an ISO certification. The school is built on 15 acres (61,000 m2) of land, and features an enrollment of 3000.[6]

History

Conceived and promoted in July 1980 by Mr. Om Pathak (IAS) in partnership with DPS Society, Delhi then presided over by Mr. Dharmvira, ICS, the former governor of Karnataka and West Bengal. Delhi Public School Ghaziabad society is now poised for a major leap of leadership in the school education domain. Founded by Mr. Om Pathak, the then District Magistrate of Ghaziabad in 1980 with support from Sh. Dharamvira and Lt. Colonel Dr. GPS Waraich, the then Principal of DPS, Mathura Road.

The present Society has Sh. Om Pathak as Chairman, Sh. RK Sharma as Joint Secretary and Sh. Anshul Pathak as Treasurer. Other members include Major General Basant SIngh, YSM, AVSM, Commander Ajit Wasu, Shri RK Agarwal, Smt. Niharika Pathak, Shri Amardeep Singh, Shri Ajit Yadav, Shri Rohit Pathak and Shri RS Suri.

The school commenced operations in a hired building in Raj Nagar on 5 September 1980. The foundation stone of the new building was laid by Sh. Dharamvira, on 19 April 1981 and soon thereafter, the school shifted to its present locale. The school has made steady progress over the past 28 years. Since its affiliation to the CBSE in 1985, 21 batches of class XII have passed through the portals of the school. DPSG is the first school in NCR to get ISO 9001:2000 certification by the international body Det Norske Veritas.

Over the past 36 years the school has established its own identity at the National and International level. In the year 1999 another branch of DPSG was set up in Vasundhara- a beautiful school, followed by DPSG International on the Hapur Road, DPSG Dehradun and DPSG Palam Vihar-gurgaon toppest schools, Gurgaon, DPSG Sushant Lok, Gurgaon. DPSG Damoh, in Madhya Pradesh was set up in partnership mode.

DPSG also promoted DPSG Starz, a pre-school and early childhood school in Gurgaon. Starz are the preferred schools in Sector 10A, Sector C-2, Palam Vihar, F Block, Palam Vihar and DLF IV, all of these schools being in Gurgaon. The society has now grown to 11 campuses; three in Ghaziabad, One in Dehradun, One in Damoh, MP and six campuses in Gurgaon.

Campus

The school is housed in three buildings, the Senior School building, the Junior School building and Admin. The Junior School runs classes from Pre-Nursery to Class VI, the Secondary School from Class VII to Class X and the Senior Secondary School from Class XI to XII.

Senior School facilities include science laboratories, library, computer network, Internet and LCD labs.

The school has citywide transportation services for its students and teachers. The sports infrastructure includes a basketball court, cricket/football field, and badminton courts. The school has a 1000+ capacity coliseum and a 150+ capacity open-air amphitheatre for cultural events. Two air-conditioned auditoriums are for small-scale events. There are campus-wide wireless networks, and the classrooms are smartclass-enabled. Every teacher has been provided with a laptop from the school.

The 15-acre (61,000 m2) campus is divided into three wings: primary (grades nursery-five), secondary (grades six-ten) and senior secondary (grades eleven-twelve). The junior or primary wing has another subdivisionthe Early Childhood Education wing (or Starz)for classes nursery to one.

In the library Indian and foreign journals, magazines and newspapers are subscribed to. New books and CDs are added to the library every year.

Activity Blocks include Senior Activity Block houses Science Laboratories, Computer Lab and LCD Lab. The Junior Activity Block has six rooms for activities like art, sculpture, dance, and music.

Playgrounds

The school has a sports complex on the campus which includes a play ground, two hard court and four turf cricket pitches for net practice and three main pitches for the matches. 400 metre 8 lane track, four basketball, two handball, two tennis courts, a skating rink, a hockey ground, an indoor table tennis facility and two gymnasiums. The school holds annual tournaments in football, cricket and basketball in which school teams from all over India participate.

Sports and traditions

Each wing holds events and functions. The annual function of the primary wingKiddofesthas been held since 1997. The secondary and senior secondary wings attend an annual "cultural extravaganza" held in either October or November. The school theatre clubRang Chhayais active all year to support these functions. In addition to school functions, Rang Chhaya has won several zonal- and national-level events. The Inter Public School (IPS) debate was started in 1990. The annual sports festival is held during the first week of December, along with the prize-distribution evening. The school has hosted national level sporting events.

The school organizes three major functions during the year which encourages 100% participation of children - Annual Function (for classes VI to IX), Kiddofest (Annual Function of Primary wing) and Annual Prize Distribution every year. Apart from these the school also organizes inter-house competitions in cultural, literary and sports activities. The school band "SOULS" performs at the major events and functions of the school.

The school has seven houses named after seven important rivers of India, viz.- Cauvery, Ganga, Jhelum, Ravi, Satluj, Yamuna and Godavari.

Technology

The school provides laptops for each teacher, and an interactive board with LCD projector in each classroom, computer laboratories, LCD rooms, 24-hour connectivity and its own website.

DPSG is the first school to implement Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) which is a school management and resource planning solution.

The school has an e-Library which is equipped with computers and a server which connects it to the libraries of the world. The students and staff give a request to the E-Librarian for a topic, and information is made available to them immediately.

Academics

The school offers foreign languages like Chinese, Japanese, French, German, Spanish. The school publishes an annual magazine 'DHRUV' and newsletters. Students write articles in Hindi and English for publication in the DHRUV.

Values The school organizes inter-house competitions in debating, declamation and recitation both in Hindi and English. Quiz competitions are held. The school promotes students' participation in these activities at the inter-school, state and national Level. Founder's Day Inter-public School Debate in English is a popular feature in the vicinity, schools from Delhi, NCR and neighbouring states participate in it. In 2016, the school organized the screening of an episode of ABP News historical TV series Bharatvarsh for students.[7]
