Dean Anthony Gratton (born 1968) is an author[1] and columnist,[2][3] specializing in wireless communications.[4][5] He is married to film producer[6] and author Sarah-Jayne Gratton.[7]

Early life

Gratton was born and grew up in Barry, South Wales.[1][8][9] He is the first of three children and has two younger sisters, Lisa and Teresa.[10] He attended High Street Primary School, Barry Comprehensive School,[11] Barry College and later Coleg Glan Hafren, Cardiff.

Career

Gratton secured his first software engineering role with Coinmaster Manufacturing Limited (later Coinmaster Gaming Products Limited), Penarth Road, Cardiff, which entered into administrative receivership, March 2003.[12][13] He later moved to Cambridge, England in the mid-1990s to further his career in software engineering. In 2000 Gratton became Editor[14] of the Specification of the Bluetooth Profiles v1.1, Part K:9 (the LAN Access Profile[15]) and in 2001 his work with Bluetooth wireless technology received a US patent.[8][9][16] Later that year, Gratton received a publishing contract for his first book titled Bluetooth Profiles: The Definitive Guide,[17] Prentice Hall (an imprint of Pearson Education) which was subsequently published in January 2003. He also participated in defining the initial Bluetooth Personal Area Networking (PAN) profiles, and was active in the Near Field Communication technology and marketing committees.[18]

Gratton studied for a Bachelor of Science in Psychology with the Open University and later in 2007 he received an honorary Doctorate[9] in Telecommunications.
