Day of Infamy is a multiplayer tactical first-person shooter video game developed and published by New World Interactive set during the events of World War II in the European Theater.[1][2] It is a standalone to the Day of Infamy mod released for their previous title, Insurgency. Day of Infamy uses Valve's Source engine.[3][4] The game was released for Microsoft Windows, OS X, and Linux on 23 March 2017.[5][6]

Gameplay

Day of Infamy draws a lot of its gameplay from Insurgency. There are two generic modes: online team-based game modes and cooperative gamemodes.[7]

  • Online game modes: The online game modes have two teams, Axis powers versus the Allied powers in two teams, each having up to 16 players.
  • Cooperative game modes: Cooperative game modes, much like the traditional online game modes, have the same two teams; however, the opposing team is controlled by bots.

Much like their previous title, Day of Infamy lacks a crosshair, HUD map, and on certain servers, a kill feed.[8][7] A player will die by being shot once, and respawns occur in waves (when the team has waves available).[7]

There are nine player classes that a player can choose from.[1][7] The available classes are Officer, Rifleman, Assault, Support, Flamethrower, Radioman, Engineer, Machinegunner, and Sniper.

Development

Day of Infamy began as a free mod to their previous title, Insurgency.[9][10] The mod was released to Steam's Workshop on 16 January 2016, and was updated through 26 May 2016. It was met with praise, and has a 5 star rank out of 2,985 votes from Steam users as of 10 May 2017. A closed alpha was released on 19 July 2016.[11] Day of Infamy was approved for release in Steam's Early Access program on 28 July 2016.[12] The game entered the beta phase on 22 December 2016,[13] and left Early Access on 23 March 2017.[14][15]

Reception

Day of Infamy received a 76 out of 100 on Metacritic.[16]
