Schwimmer worked at the New York law firm Davis Polk & Wardwell as an associate, then joined Goldman Sachs's financial institutions group, "focusing on market structure, brokerage and trading", and was later chief of staff to then COO Lloyd Blankfein[2] Schwimmer's most recent role at Goldman was as "global head of market structure and global head of metals and mining in investment banking".[4]
In April 2018, he was hired as chief executive of the London Stock Exchange Group, having worked as a banker for Goldman Sachs for twenty years.[3] His appointment led to some surprise and humour due to confusion with the actor David Schwimmer of Friends fame.[1][5]
