David H. "Dave" Leroy (born August 16, 1947[1]) is a past Lieutenant Governor and Attorney General of Idaho.
He served as the 36th Lieutenant Governor of Idaho between 1983 and 1987.
Leroy served as lieutenant governor during the administration of Governor John V. Evans.
Leroy was appointed by President George H. W. Bush as United States Nuclear Waste Negotiator in 1990. He served in that capacity until 1993.
Leroy is a practicing attorney in Boise since 1988. Leroy deals with government and administrative law issues, criminal defense and family law trials, hearings, litigation and counsel at state, federal and local levels.[2]
Leroy is a self-taught Abraham Lincoln expert[3] and founded the Idaho Lincoln Institute.[4]
Personal Life
Leroy went to Lewiston Senior High. Received his BS and JD at the University of Idaho and at New York University his LLM.
Leroy is a grandfather with two children, Jordan a lawyer and mom, and Adam, an archaeologist and father. Leroy wife Nancy is a former Miss Boise and Miss Boise State University and has a degree in Sociology from Boise State University.[5]
Elections
Idaho's 1st Congressional District
2018
Leroy announced for Idaho's 1st congressional district race for 2018 on May 12, 2017.[6]
Leroy lost the Idaho Republican Party May 2018 to Russ Fulcher taking second with 15.6% of the vote. [7]
1994
In 1994 Leroy ran for the Republican nomination to the United States House of Representatives from the Idaho 1st Congressional District. He finished second behind Helen Chenoweth with 27.8% of the vote.[8]
Gubernatorial
In 1986 Leroy won the Republican nomination for Governor of Idaho. He lost in the general election to former Democratic Governor Cecil D. Andrus.
Lieutenant Governor
In 1982 he was elected lieutenant governor, replacing Phil Batt, who was a candidate for governor that year.
Attorney General
Leroy was elected Attorney General of Idaho in 1978.
Ada County Prosecuting Attorney
Was elected in 1970s and served 2 terms.[9]
