Datum Peak

Datum Peak (77°58′S 163°51′E / 77.967°S 163.850°E / -77.967; 163.850Coordinates: 77°58′S 163°51′E / 77.967°S 163.850°E / -77.967; 163.850) is a peak 1,575 metres (5,170 ft) high near the southwest extremity of Hobbs Ridge, rising above the south side of Gauss Glacier, 1.6 nautical miles (3 km) west of Williams Peak, in Victoria Land. The name is one of a group in the area associated with surveying applied in 1993 by the New Zealand Geographic Board. It was named from datum (a practical representation of a reference system), a geodesy and surveying term defined by fixed coordinates.[1]
