Daniel "Dan" Lloyd (born 11 August 1980[1]) is a retired English[2] professional road racing cyclist from Christchurch, Dorset.[3][4][5][6][7] In 2007, Daniel Lloyd signed a contract with DFL-Cyclingnews-Litespeed for whom he rode for one year.[8] He was a member of the Irish An Post–M.Donnelly–Grant Thornton–Sean Kelly team in 2008. In 2009 he joined the Cervélo TestTeam. After his contract expired at the end of 2011, he signed for the British Team IG–Sigma Sport.[9] In November 2012, Lloyd announced his retirement from professional cycling, and he became assistant directeur sportif at IG-Sigma Sport.[10]

Lloyd won the Vuelta a Extremadura overall in 2008 and stages of Tour of Siam and Tour of Qinghai Lake in 2006.

Lloyd also works as a broadcaster for Eurosport's cycling coverage and the Global Cycling Network.[11] Since 2012, he has been the international English finish line commentator for Giro d'Italia.[12]

Career

Lloyd started off as a mountain bike racer when he was about 13 years old, and his first major success was the Southern Area Mountain Bike Championships when he was a junior.[13] He generally always says that his favourite race is the Tour of Flanders, one of the two major Cobbled Classics, he himself had the opportunity to race in 2009 as part of the Cervélo TestTeam.[14][15] However, in recent years, from a spectator point of view, he has also really started to like Strade Bianche, a race he also rode in 2009 with the Cervélo TestTeam. According to himself, the highlights of his cycling career were reaching the Champs-Elysées in the 2010 Tour de France in which he finished 162nd in the General Classification and 125th in the Points Classification,[16] and the 2009 Tour of Qatar, which was the first race that he did with the Cervélo TestTeam.

Personal life

Growing up, Lloyd's cycling hero was Frank Vandenbroucke.[17] Lloyd is often nicknamed "the Boss" by his co-presenters at the Global Cycling Network.[18] He also has a dog whom he named "Ronde" after his favourite Belgian one-day cycling race: the Tour of Flanders (Dutch: Ronde van Vlaanderen).[19]
