Damian Foxall

Damian Foxall is an Irish sailor from County Kerry.[1]

Biography

Damian Foxall has competed in ten round-the-world races which include four 1st place wins. In the 2007/2008 Barcelona World Race, sailing with co-skipper Jean-Pierre Dick on the Open 60 Paprec-Virbac.[2] He was subsequently described as a national hero and Ireland's top international sailor and was greeted at a reception at the Presidential Residence in Ireland[3]

In 2011 Damian won the Volvo Ocean race with Team Groupama.

Other rtw events include 5 Volvo ocean races, and a World Record circumnavigation in early 2004 with Steve Fossett on the G-Class catamaran Cheyenne. He was named Sailor of the Month by Afloat Magazine in March 2004.[4]

In 1997 Damian became the first non-French entry to win the rookie class in the Single-handed offshore race - La Solitaire du Figaro. He went on to confirm his success in 1998-1999 with a leg win, before changing to the ORMA 60` Trimaran class

His results in the ORMA 60' Trimaran class include: 1st - Transat Quebec-St Malo. 2st - ORMA circuit championship 3 participantions in Double Handed Transat Jacques Vabre, including 2nd, 3rd and a capsize. 2 Grand prix wins

In addition to his offshore experience, Foxall has also been associated with dinghy, Olympic and America's Cup sailing.

  • 2014 - Volvo Ocean race with Donfeng race team
  • 2014 - Winner of Sevenstar Round Britain and Ireland (new record) as a crew member of MOD 70 Trimaran Oman Sail [5]
  • 2011 - Winner of Volvo Ocean Race, as a crew member of Groupama sailing team,[6]
  • 2009 - 5th place of Volvo Ocean Race, Green Dragon Racing Team[7]
  • 2008 - Winner of Barcelona World Race, Paprec Virbac 2, together with Jean-Pierre Dick
  • 2006 - 5th place of Volvo Ocean Race, Ericsson Racing Team, 5th place
  • 2006 - Winner of Archipelago Raid 2006 together with Magnus Woxen
  • 2005 - Winner of the Oryx Quest, as a crew member of maxi-catamaran Doha
  • 2004 - Round The World absolute record, as a crew member of maxi-catamaran Cheyenne
  • 2004 - K-Challenge Class America, Louis Vuitton Acts
  • 2004 - Winner of the Transat Québec St-Malo as a crew member of ORMA trimaran Sergio Tacchini
  • 2003 - Olympic Campaign, Tornado
  • 2002 - Volvo Ocean Race, Team Tyco, 4th place
  • 2000 - AG2R Double-handed race
  • 1997 - Solitaire du Figaro

11th Hour Racing

Canadian Wildlife Federation

From 2012-2017 Damian worked as Recreation Education Manager for the Canadian Wildlife Federation [8] and is an advocate for outdoor education, connecting people with the natural world to promote health and conservation. Damian continues to collaborate with CWF especially promoting the WILD About Sports program as part of CWF education programs across Canada.

Outdoor Education

Damian Foxall is an active promoter of Ocean conservation. Ambassador for : Sailors for the sea; Race for water. He also works to promote Best practices at afloat with regards to marine mammals. See - When whales meet sails

Personal Details

Foxall is single, has two children - Oisin and Neave and resides in Ireland.
