"Dame Tu Cosita" (lit.Give Me Your Thingy) is a song by Panamanian artist El Chombo, featuring Jamaican dancehall musician Cutty Ranks. It was originally recorded in 1997, but extended and released as a single in 2018. A remix with Pitbull and Karol G was released on August 29, 2018, and was produced by Afro Bros.[1]

History

The song was first released on Chombo's album Cuentos De La Cripta 2 (1997) where a short version of the song was under the name "Introduccion B (El Cosita Remix)". Chombo then signed with French label Juston Records in 2018 to produce an extended version of the song.[2]

Internet popularity

On 16 October 2017, Dailymotion user ArtNoux uploaded an animation of a green alien dancing to a remix of "Introduccion B" under the video name 'Popoy – Dame Tu Cosita'. This video was in fact a remake of an older version of the alien dancing to "Introduccion B". The video was then uploaded to YouTube sometime in February 2018 and its popularity skyrocketed.[3]

On various apps and videos, a great number of individuals or groups of people attempted to perform the alien's moves. This resulted in an online dance craze to the song. Many users also put in a frame of the original alien dance for comparison to their own dance. These factors contributed to the popularity of the musical.ly app, where the majority of these videos are uploaded.[4]

It was originally to be featured in the upcoming Ubisoft dance rhythm game, Just Dance 2019,[5] but was scrapped from the game. However, it is featured in Just Dance 2018's subscription service, Just Dance Unlimited, as an exclusive track.

Music video

The video shows an extended animation of the alien video to the full remix of "Dame Tu Cosita" animated by Artnoux and directed by Sihem OUILLANI. As of 8 October 2018, the video has received over 830 million views on YouTube.[6]
