Daisy Osakue (born 16 January 1996) is an Italian female discus thrower that was 5th at the 2018 European Athletics Championships.[1] Her personal best of 59.72 m (as of July 2018) is the 39th best measure in the seasonal world lists.[2]

Biography

Born in Turin from Nigerian parents, Italian naturalized at the age of 18.[3] In 2018, after having established the 4th all-time Italian performance in the discus throw, she obtained the standard FIDAL and EAA and was called by DT Elio Locatelli to represent Italy at the European Championships in Berlin.[4]

On July 30, 2018, in her home town of Moncalieri, young people threw an egg on her driving alongside. The eye needed to be surgically operated to remove a fragment of the egg shell. At first it was thought to a possible case of racism,[5][6] the Italian police later stating it was the last of three episodes in few days, each with different targets. A pensioner reported the launch of eggs against his house in the night between July 14 and 15. On July 25, before midnight, three women were hit on the arm by eggs thrown out of a passing car while leaving a street restaurant in the same area of Turin.[7][8]
