DTEK Energy

DTEK Energy (укр. ДТЕК Енерго) is a DTEK operating company responsible for coal production, electricity generation and distribution. [https://energo.dtek.com/en/]. The assets of DTEK Energy are represented by 17 mines and 5 coalprocessing plants, thermal power plants of DTEK Skhidenergo, DTEK Dniproenergo, DTEK Zakhidenergo, Kyivenergo and Mironovskaya TPP, an affiliate of DTEK Donetskoblenergo. The total installed capacity – 17 GW. Also includes 5 distribution companies serving 3.4 million customers.^[2]

DTEK Renewables

DTEK Renewables (укр. ДТЕК ВДЕ) is the operation company managing DTEK’s assets in the renewable energy sector.

DTEK RES is the largest producer of electric energy from wind in Ukraine. In 2016 the ‘green’ energy supply has reached 608.4 mil kWh. Installed capacity of Botiyevska wind power plant is 200 MW.^[3] Company has launched Tryfonivka solar power plant with a capacity of 10 MW in Kherson region in August 2017.^[4]

DTEK Oil&Gas

DTEK Oil&Gas (укр. ДТЕК Нафтогаз) is an operating company in charge of the oil and gas sector in the structure of DTEK energy holding. DTEK Naftogaz's assets portfolio includes Naftogazvydobuvannia and Naftogazrozrobka, which carry out exploration and production of hydrocarbons in three licensed areas in Poltava and Kharkiv regions.

DTEK Oil & Gas in 2017 boosted natural gas production by 1.2% from 2016, to 1.65 bcm.^[5]

DTEK ESCO

DTEK ESCO – is the first Ukrainian energy company to offer comprehensive energy efficiency and energy saving services to consumers.

Energy Efficient Schools Project

The "Energy Efficient Schools" Project is aimed at educating pupils of the sixth, seventh and eighth forms in the basics of energy saving both in theory and practice. At the end of the course, the pupils were to prepare their projects on improving energy efficiency of their schools. The first stage of the "Energy Efficient Schools" project took place at 11 educational institutions in Kyiv from February to May 2013. As a result of the project, DTEK provided grants to implement energy efficiency projects designed by the pupils. The second stage of the project started in the second half of 2013, where 55 schools from 22 cities and towns are taking part. Now, all the schools have an optional energy efficiency course in their curricular.^[6]

The goal of the Energy Efficient Schools Project was to develop conscientious and responsible future consumer of energy resources who is aware of technical and financial problems of energy suppliers and who consumes resources rationally and pays one's utility bills on time.

The task of the Project is to develop energy and environmentally educated school students, make them understand the importance of efficient and careful consumption of energy and other resources, and get school students involved in activities aiming at reduction of consumption of energy resources and minimization of the negative effect on environment.

From the methodological perspective, the Project was built as a "program of actions": school students learned about problems in the area of energy supply and energy conservation and progressively they inclined to act properly to solve the problems. School students conducted energy audits of school premises and developed project proposals for improving energy efficiency of school buildings. As part of the optional training course on "Basics of energy supply and energy saving", school students developed and carried out information campaigns for increasing awareness of teachers, parents, neighbors of energy saving and rational consumption of energy resources.

Achievements

1. During 2012-2015, optional training course "Fundamentals of Heat Supply and Heat Energy Conservation" designed for 6-8th grade students was implemented in 116 schools of 24 Ukraine's cities and settlements.
2. School teachers and management received methodological and consultancy assistance regarding course implementation and events/actions such as energy audit; tours of energy companies; school contests for energy saving; information campaigns; contests for best drawings/videos promoting energy saving; contest for best energy efficient project proposal.
3. Two manuals and three procedures were developed. The Manuals are: a Students' Manual "About energy supply and energy saving for a future consumer" and Teacher's Manual "Collection of additional materials which can be used at lessons and for other activities under training and education in energy saving". The procedures are: "On project launch", "On lessons and other activities conducted during trainings and education in energy saving"; "On the school contest for energy saving"; "On the school contest for best energy efficient project proposal and/or low cost energy efficiency improvements of school premises".
4. In June 2016, training and methodological materials of the optional course "Fundamentals of energy supply and energy saving", consisting of course curriculum and a Manual, was officially approved by the Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine and recommended for the higher school.
5. In November 2015, Energy Efficient Schools Project, implemented by MDI during three years with financing from the energy company DTEK, won the national contest "Best Social Project in Ukraine".
6. With assistance from MDI, schools during two months conducted contests for energy saving and together managed to save 179 141 KW•hour of electric energy for total of UAH 291 104 (electricity tariff at the time 1.625 UAH/KW•hour) and average reduced electricity consumption for all participating schools was 12.3%. In addition to low-cost technical measures, schools conducted information campaigns promoting energy efficiency and energy saving.^[7]

Telemedicine Project

The Telemedicine Project is being jointly implemented by DTEK, the mobile operator MTS, the Foundation for Development of Ukraine, the National Academy of Medical Sciences of Ukraine, and the Ministry of Health. Six medical institutions were connected to the national telemedicine network and required equipment was purchased and installed in 2013 thanks to DTEK's initiative and financial support. As part of the project, doctors and technicians were trained how to operate the telemedicine system - both in theory and practice.^[8]
