DHA City Karachi is an under-construction housing estate in Gadap Town in the outskirts of Karachi, Sindh, Pakistan.[2] The project spans over 20,000[3] acres and is planned to accommodate up-to 250,000 people.[4]
Located 56 kilometers from Karachi, the community is planned to be self-dependent for water and electricity. Major construction works started in 2012, with master plan undertaken by Osmani & Company (Lead Consultants) in association with Doxiadis Associates, Greece & RMJM, UK and incorporates theme parks, Institute of Business Administration, Karachi campus, Shaukat Khanum Memorial Cancer Hospital & Research Centre, Dow University of Health Sciences Campus, state-of-the-art Liver Transplant Centre, 20 high school's and 40 schools.[5][6][7]
Transport
Airport
DHA City Karachi is located at a distance of 35 km from Jinnah International Airport, the largest airport of Pakistan.[8]
Road
DHA City is located accessible from the city of Karachi as well as Hyderabad by M-9 Super Highway. The project is situated at a distance of 56 km from the city core area of Karachi.[8]
To connect the DHA City Karachi with the DHA, the project developers have planned Malir Motorway; the Sindh government has allocated funds for its development in the 2016-17 budget. The Motorway will cut down hour-long journey into just a 20 minute drive.[9]
As per the DCK Transportation Plan there will be a myriad of road networks, major intersections, collector roads, service roads, roundabouts, one way regimes and the concept of using maximum public transport.[8]
Public Transport
Public transportation[8] consists of two street car trams, articulated modern buses, pedestrian areas and parking lots.[8]
Bus Rapid Transit
The Karachi Bus Rapid Transit System (BRT) has been extended to DHA City Karachi. Residents of DCK will benefit from the Blue-Line of the BRT System that will provide a comfortable and efficient public transportation system.[8] This will facilitate a speedy link to the city center from DCK.
Tramway System
Three tram[8] lines are planned for main boulevards of DHA City.[8] These lines will serve commercial as well as residential areas of the city.[8]
