This enzyme belongs to the family of lyases, specifically the class of phosphorus-oxygen lyases. Other names in common use include 3',5'-cyclic-CMP synthase, cytidylyl cyclase, cytidyl cyclase, and CTP diphosphate-lyase (cyclizing).
