Curtis. C. Harris is the head of the Molecular Genetics and Carcinogenesis Section and chief of the Laboratory of Human Carcinogenesis at the Center for Cancer Research of the National Cancer Institute.
Harris graduated from Kansas State University with a BA in zoology in 1965, and an MD in 1969.[1] He was an internal medicine intern at UCLA hospital in 1969. He did research at NIH for three years before proceeding with his residency and returning to NIH. Since 1981, he has been head of the Molecular Genetics and Carcinogenesis Section and chief of the Laboratory of Human Carcinogenesis.[1] He is also a lecturer of medicine and oncology at Georgetown University School of Medicine. He has published more than 500 journal articles and holds 30 patents.[2]
His current research focuses on precision medicine and microRNA in cancer.[3] His lab identified a variant of the MBL2 gene conferring risk of lung cancer in people exposed to second-hand smoke.[4][5]
Harris is editor-in-chief of Carcinogenesis.
