Current is an American media platform.

History

The company was founded by CEO Dan Novaes,[1][2] Nick McEvily, and Kiran Panesar[3] in 2016.[4] The company’s Board of Advisors include Galia Benartzi and Mark Cuban.[3]

Platform

The Current platform consolidates media streaming services into one point of access. Users of the platform receive digital tokens called CRNC, which can be exchanged for goods or services on the Current platform, which uses the Ethereum blockchain—monetizing a “users’ time, attention, and data”.[3] According to Novaes, this decentralizes the monetization of data from large corporations to the individuals from which the data is coming from.[5] Current is accessed through a web and mobile app, and the initial CRNC air drop to users was valued at $4 million.[6] In 2018 the company raised $36 million in a private sale.[7] In all the company was offered $150 million.[8][9][10]
