Crossroads Classic

The Crossroads Classic is a four-team basketball event held in Indianapolis, Indiana at Bankers Life Fieldhouse. It has featured four Indiana schools each year. They are the Indiana Hoosiers, the Purdue Boilermakers, the Notre Dame Fighting Irish, and the Butler Bulldogs. In odd numbered years, Notre Dame plays Indiana while Butler plays Purdue. In even numbered years, Notre Dame plays Purdue while Butler plays Indiana. Purdue and Indiana do not play each other in the Classic, as they are Big Ten conference rivals and always play later in the season. Thus, neither do Notre Dame and Butler.

History

The event was the genesis of former Purdue athletic director Morgan Burke. [1] It was designed to replicate a previous basketball event, the Hoosier Classic, which dated back to the 1940s. The Hoosier Classic was also a two-game nonconference showcase between Indiana, Purdue, Notre Dame and Butler. The games were held at Hinkle Fieldhouse. [2]

In 2014, the athletic directors at the four participating schools announced that the Crossroads Classic has been renewed through 2019.[3]

In 2016, for the first time in history, all four teams entered the Crossroads Classic ranked in the top 25.[4]
