Credit Benchmark is a privately owned financial data analytics company offering access to an entirely new source of information: the consensus credit risk views of the world’s leading banks. The company is headquartered in London, UK with offices in New York City. The company uses a contributed data model to pool credit risk estimates from global IRB and CCAR regulated banks, which it uses to develop aggregated and anonymized risk indicators.[3]

Credit Benchmark was selected in the 2015, 2016 and 2017 Fintech50 awards[4][5]

History

Credit Benchmark was established in 2012 by Mark Faulkner, founder of Data Explorers and the author of the Guide to Securities Lending Markets,[6] and Donal Smith, formerly CEO of Data Explorers which sold to Markit in 2012.[7]

Credit Benchmark completed a $7m Series A funding round in July 2014, led by Index Ventures[8] and a $20m Series B funding round in July 2015, led by Balderton Capital.

Services and products

Credit Benchmark collects various risk metrics, including probability of default (PD) and loss given default (LGD) from contributing Internal Ratings-Based Approach (IRB) and equivalent CCAR banks. The company aggregates and anonymizes this information to provide clients with consensus credit risk indicators on more than 12,000 entities: sovereigns, financials, corporates, funds and SMEs, including Credit risk indicators on hitherto unrated obligors including private firms and funds.
