The Creaking Pagoda (2016)

The Creaking Pagoda between two ponds in the landscape park separating the Catherine Palace and Alexander Palace in Tsarskoe Selo, Russia, is a folly that resulted from the 18th-century taste for Chinoiserie. It was designed by Georg von Veldten.[1] Construction lasted from 1778 to 1786.[1] The walls are decorated with figures of dragons and other stylized Chinese motifs. The name of the structure refers to a characteristic sound produced by a metal banner on the top when it is turned by the wind.
