Coulter is a surname of Scottish and Irish origin, deriving from Uí Coltarain, meaning "descendants of Coltarain". They were chiefs of the petty-kingdom of Dál Coirbin (within what became the barony of Castlereagh), in the over-kingdom of Ulaid.[1]
