Conrado Gempesaw (also known as "Bobby") is the 17th college president of St. John's University in New York City. He is the first layperson to hold the position, since the university's establishment in 1870 (with all 16 prior presidents being Vincentian priests)[1] Gempesaw immigrated to the U.S. from the Philippines in 1980 and is the second Filipino American to serve as a college president of a doctoral research university in the United States.[2] Prior to his role as president was Provost and Executive Vice President for Academic Affairs at Miami University in Oxford, Ohio and dean of the business school and tenured professor at the University of Delaware.[3]
