Colin Lambert

Colin William Lambert (born August 1958)[1] is a British schoolteacher, and former Leader of Rochdale Metropolitan Borough Council.

Early life

He qualified as a teacher in the late 1970s.[2] He had been in the Labour Party since the mid-1970s.

Career

He became a teacher and became involved with teaching unions. He taught in Rochdale for twenty years.

Councillor

He represented the ward of Heywood West.[3] He was a councillor from 2 May 1997 to 5 May 2016. On the council cabinet, he represented Children, Schools and Families, when Rochdale was the fourth-worst LEA in England. On 17 December 2010, nine Lib Dem councillors resigned from their party and left their coalition with the Conservatives on the council, leaving Labour as the biggest party on the council. On 5 May 2011 the Labour Party gained overall control of the council with 29 out of councillors.

On 3 June 2014 he was ousted as Council Leader of Rochdale MBC, two days after celebrating 1,000 days as council leader.[4]

Personal life

He is married with two children.[5] He enjoys walking. He lives in Broadhalgh, in the west of Rochdale, off the B6222, near Oulder Hill Community School.
