Coat Corporation Co. Ltd (株式会社コートコーポレーション, Kabushiki gaisha Kōto Kōporēshon) is the leading gay video production company in Japan founded in 1993. Its headquarters are located in Shimokitazawa, Setagaya, Tokyo.

Overview

Coat Corporation launched Power Grip in 1991,[1] since then the company constantly released works of about eight titles each month, and it has counted more than 160 titles to date while handling to change the genre. As an affiliated yūgen gaisha called Kuratatsu (蔵建), and another called Coat West in Osaka Prefecture, Kuratatsu had been around since 1997, and Coat West released branded works of the same name since 2003.

The initial work of Power Grip mainly feature gym class students, and launched many new labels later on, in which it currently has more than forty titles. There are a wide range of models and projects such as athletes, Johnny's, salarymen, gay slangs and SM, and there are genres ranging from soft to hard.

Around the same time, Coat released its first situational gay video series Babylon (Vol. 60 in 2012). Kuratatsu later released the heavy gym class label danGet and the Johnny's Jr label Fine from Out Staff in 1997. Although danGet discontinued from Volume 25 (2008), Fine is still continuing to be released, with the number of titles reaching over sixty (as of 2012). A variety of other labels were also established. One of them called Exfeed became independent afterwards.

Criminal case

In 1996, a male high school student was told to "not appear in the video" on the streets of Setagaya, but he agreed that he "would take off his pants for 2,000 yen" or "50,000 in thirty minutes" and was filmed naked in a nearby karaoke box, and made seven people, including Corporation President Eroshima, arrested for violation of the Employment Security Law (recruitment for harassment work purposes). This case was related to of Tokyo Metropolitan High School teacher Yumiko Kato's involvement "Imakita Kato" which consisted of television tarentos, and was widely reported that there were 170 high students who appeared in response of the solicitation.[2][3]

Manatsu no Yo no Inmu

Among all of the videos from Coat Corporation, this is the most notable on the Internet, and it was widely reported that there was a celebrity in one of the series. The official title was called Babylon Stage 34: Manatsu no Yo no Inmu: the Imp (Babylon STAGE34 真夏の夜の淫夢 the IMP, "A Midsummer Night's Lustful Dream"), the 34th work of the Babylon series, released in 2001.[4] It is a ninety-minute work consisted of four chapters that each have no connection. The name is presumed from the Shakespeare play A Midsummer Night's Dream.[5] The name Yajū Senpai (野獣先輩, "Beastly Senior") (performed by Koji Tadokoro (田所 浩二), aka Ri Jeon So (이전소) because of his video spoofs based on some official videos of North Korea, the latter is more commonly used by Chinese netizens) from Manatsu no Yo no Inmu became popular on the Internet.[6] Some numbers which had special pronunciation in Japanese became popular with Inmu, too. Such as 893(やくざ)(gangster) and 114514(いいよ!こいよ!)(Okay! Come on!) etc. Meanwhile, Inmu spread rapidly in more Otaku's websites and groups of East Asia (especially Japan and China).

The video had made a big popularity in the Japanese video posting-distribution site Niconico Douga, with videos posting with the work as a theme has increased dramatically since around 2010, and continued until 2014. From 4 to 10 March 2014 the "Nico Dou Ninki Tag Trend" which ranked popular videos, and beyond any other genre, one of its related videos became first place,[4] and later ranked fifth in May 2015.[7]

Also using lines and scenes from the video, they are used for MAD videos, and have no relation to live gaming videos when using the lines and sounds for some reason, but on the Japanese Internet society, the most popular is on Niconico Douga.[4] It also matches with the popular anime Inmu (淫夢) and it was enjoyed as a fuss, and was taken up by internet news.[8]

Manatsu no Yo no Inmu uses the internet slang "Bireson" (微レ存, fine existence) (abbreviation of "Biryūshi Reberu de Sonzai shite iru" (微粒子レベルで存在している, It exists at the fine particle level)).[9] In Ameba's "JCJK Hayarikotoba Ranking" (JC stands for joshi chūgakusei (female junior high school student) and JK stands for joshi kōsei (school girls)), "Bireson" became tenth in the "Inmu Yōgodearu" (lustful word) in 2014.[10][11]

In the series, "TDN" who is the celebrity appeared in the first chapter of the video, but the most popular character is Yajū Senpai who came from the fourth part. Originally the popular character was TDN, the popularity of Yajū Senpai gradually rises due to the discoveries of other internet users of finding acts who played the character in the chapter, and in 10 August 2016 is shown as 8 () and 10 (), and in Twitter, also involving users who didn't know that the story was from a gay video, the hashtag Hash-tagYajūnoHi (Hash-tag野獣の日, Beast's Day) became a trend all day.[4][5] In the same year on the internet distribution website, they made a project to try to locate where the real Yajū Senpai was currently doing, but there were also incidents such as being canceled due to violating privacy, and the popularity is persistent.[12]
