Clayton James Thorson is an American football quarterback. He is currently a redshirt senior and the starting quarterback for the 2018 Northwestern Wildcats football team. After redshirting in 2014, he was named the starting quarterback in 2015 and led the Wildcats to the third 10-win season in program history. As a starter for the 2016 team, he earned Academic All-Big Ten honors. Thorson was selected by ESPN.com as the seventh best high school quarterback and played in the 2014 Semper Fidelis All-American Bowl.

Early years

Thorson attended Wheaton North High School in Wheaton, Illinois. As a senior, he had 2,809 passing yards, 29 touchdowns, 630 rushing yards and 12 rushing touchdowns.[1] He committed to Northwestern University to play college football.[2][3]

College career

After redshirting his first year at Northwestern in 2014, Thorson became the starting quarterback in 2015.[4][5] He completed 150 of 295 passes for 1,522 passing yards, seven touchdowns and nine interceptions and rushed for 397 yards with five touchdowns.[6][7] As a sophomore in 2016, he completed 280 of 478 passes for 3,182 yards and a school record 22 touchdowns.[8]
