Claud A. Hatcher the inventor of R.C. Cola
Claud Adkins Hatcher (20 August 1876 – 31 December 1933) was an American businessman. He invented the RC (Royal Crown) brand of beverages. He was a Columbus, Georgia based pharmacist and son of a grocer.[1]
Through the family-owned Hatcher Grocery Company, Hatcher introduced a carbonated soft drink in 1905 called Royal Crown Ginger Ale.[1] Other flavors, including their flagship cola, followed.[1] In the same year a company was formed to bottle the popular drinks, Union Bottling Works.
Hatcher is buried in the Riverdale Cemetery in Muscogee County, Georgia. His will established the Pickett & Hatcher Educational Fund, a non-profit student lender.
