Clarity provides global corporate travel management and conference and event services to organisations in the United Kingdom and worldwide.

A subsidiary of The Co-operative Group until 2014, the organisation was purchased by Mawasem Travel & Tourism (a subsidiary of the Al Tayyar Group) and in 2015 rebranded from Co-operative Travel Management to Clarity Travel Management; investing over £500,000 in travel technology.[1]

In 2016, following acquisition by Mawasem Travel & Tourism, Clarity Travel Management merged with Portman Travel to become the UK’s seventh largest travel management company.

History

The business travel management company was founded in 2006, when the resources of Hourds Business Travel, Corniche Travel Management, Apollo Business Travel and Tony Iredale Travel were combined to create Co-operative Travel Management.[2]

From 2011 onward, the company was run as a joint venture between Thomas Cook, The Co-operative Group and Midlands Cooperative.[3] In 2014, the company announced it was to be acquired by Mawasem Travel & Tourism Ltd, a subsidiary of the Al Tayyar Group.[4] Earlier in the year, the Middle Eastern-owned travel group had also acquired another Thomas Cook subsidiary in Elegant Resorts.[5][6]

Following the acquisition by Mawasem Travel & Tourism Ltd, it was announced that a new board would be appointed.[7] Pat McDonagh became CEO, with Mark Nevin and Sue Chapman becoming the CFO and Commercial Director respectively.[8]

Mawasem Travel & Tourism acquired Portman Travel in 2016, and the two organisations merged under the re-branded, Clarity - becoming the UK’s seventh largest corporate travel management company.

Operations

With divisions specialising in corporate, marine and offshore, executive, academia/not-for-profit travel, and conferencing and events, Clarity employs over 500 staff.

The company is headquartered in Manchester in the United Kingdom, with operational offices in Bury St Edmunds, Derby, East Kilbride, Edinburgh, Leeds, London, Southampton, Stafford and Warrington, as well as offices in Ireland and the Netherlands.
