Emiliano "Emile" Rodolfo Rosales-Birou (born April 8, 1990), also known as Emile Rosales[1] and best known as Chuggaaconroy, is an American internet personality and prominent[2] Let's Player.[1][3] He is a founding member of TheRunawayGuys collaborative Let's Play YouTube channel, along with fellow Let's Players ProtonJon and NintendoCapriSun.

Personal life

Rosales-Birou is a native of Phoenix, Arizona. In 2012, he moved to Atlanta, Georgia. He has also mentioned that he lived in Florida at some time. In adolescence, Rosales-Birou developed a fear of rollar coasters after the Disney Thunder Mountain derailing, claiming to have been next in line for the ride.[4] He's mentioned in videos having family and financial issues during his childhood[5]. He's spoken many times of not having a very healthy relationship with his father, citing; drug use, alcoholism, and having "other priorities than his family."[6] Rosales-Birou was initially inspired to make Let's Plays by Jonathan "ProtonJon" Wheeler, who he'd go on to found the collaborative Let's Play channel TheRunawayGuys with[7]. Rosales has been friends with fellow content creator Stephen Georg, who also serves as his graphic designer since he was 14 years old.[8] In the midst of Hurricane Florence in September 2018, Rosales invited Georg and family to stay with him as they rode out the storm.[9]

YouTube career

Rosales-Birou joined YouTube on July 26, 2006 as "Chuggaaconroy". On March 26, 2008, he began posting his Let's Play of the Super Nintendo Entertainment System RPG EarthBound. He has since produced 37 solo Let's Plays, and his content has been cited as a family-friendly alternative to more vulgar Let's Players, as well as being cited as one of the most influential.[10] Early in his video-making career, Rosales notoriously neglected revealing his face (with the exception of update vlogs early in his channel's history that were removed) until TheSpeedGamers' 2010 charity stream, where he removed the silver mask he wore as a donation-incentive, though his face is seen rather regularly on both his channel as well as TheRunawayGuys, presently.[11] In July 2010, Rosales-Birou's account was suspended under false copyright claims, though was restored in late August.[12]

In 2014, it was reported that Rosales-Birou earned a salary of approximately USD$62,000 from his YouTube channel, according to SocialBlade.[13][14]

Currently, all of Rosales-Birou's main Let's Plays have been played on a Nintendo console.

  1. 1 2 Bold system indicates system used for recording.
  2. Additional episode posted March 30, 2011
  3. As Mother was only officially released in Japan prior to 2015, Rosales-Birou utilized an emulator to play the then-unreleased official English localization.
  4. As Mother 3 was only officially released in Japan, Rosales-Birou utilized an emulator to play a fan translated version.
  5. Gameplay video captured on an emulator; save file was lost later on
  6. Called Super Luigi Galaxy due to his playing as Luigi
  7. As Pikmin 2 was only released on GameCube in North America prior to June 2012, Chuggaaconroy played the Gamecube version so it is unknown if he used an actual Gamecube or a Wii to record. However, Chuggaaconroy had always, in the past, used the Wii to record GC games, so it is safe to assume that he did the same here.
  8. Recorded using the Game Boy Player
  9. In addition to two navigational videos
  10. Revival series in 2017 focused on "Welcome Amiibo" update
  11. Series went on official hiatus due to Rosales-Birou dealing with a bronchial infection
